Life Hacks for the Stay-at-Home Mom - Life Of A Momster

Life Hacks for the Stay-at-Home Mom

Every stay-at-home mom needs some help once in a while. These 10 life hacks for the stay-at-home mom will do just that. Help you get through your day, and make it a little easier!

I have already gone over How to be a Sane Stay-at-Home Mom, but in this post – I will go over a few mommy tips to help make your day go a little smoother.

These are my 10 favorite hacks that I incorporate in my daily life. Being a stay-at-home mom is the most rewarding experience, but let’s face it. WE CAN USE A LITTLE ASSISTANCE!

1. Get Your Butt Up

I promise, I’m not that crazy.  Waking up –even if it is half an hour earlier– can be a huge help when you get overwhelmed first thing in the morning.  That little time to yourself will make you feel like a million bucks.  Get your butt up, rinse off, grab that coffee, and get dressed.  This will make a world of difference with how you feel for the rest of the day.

Hack within a Hack
-Put your coffee in an indestructible -keep your mama juice scorching hot- in a good thermos!
I use my Yeti every single day of my life to keep my sh*t hot. Even after losing it for a few hours.-

2. Get Organized

One of the best ways to keep yourself sane, is to get and stay organized.  I found a couple cheap canvas storage bags and bins to keep all of my baby’s favorite toys and activities in.

It makes for an easy clean up and stow away!

This also goes for your stuff too, mama.

I like to keep a rolling cart in our bedroom to store all of my pump parts so everything is right there and ready for my morning and bedtime pump sessions.

3. Order Groceries Online

I always thought this was something that was still “in the future”.  Like, this can’t be a thing yet- can it?  Well, it is.. And it’s AMAZING!  This saves so much time when you aren’t feeling up for an inside grocery store run.  Maybe your baby isn’t feeling the greatest, or you just plain don’t want to- whatever the reason– pick up or delivery for groceries is always a win-win!

4. Let Them Play!

Yep, there it is… this might actually give you a little bit of a breather too.  Let them play by themselves for a while.  I know my girl loves to wander around the living room and explore new things.  It’s amazing to sit back and watch them grow and learn something new each day.

Story Time
Just the other day, I was lounging on the couch working on some new blog graphics, and I noticed my baby girl pick up her toy phone and answer it.
Of course, I got so excited to jump in and play with her.
Next thing I knew I was “ring-ringing” and there she was picking up the phone from her walker, and she was answering each fake phone call!
Babies learn from watching, and it is the most amazing thing to actually witness them figure things out as they play independently.

5. Skip Your Nap-time Duties

This is easier said than done, I know.

However,  this will help you in the long run.  Not every nap time needs to be housework time for you.  It is OK to take a rest along with your baby.  Whether that be you taking a nap yourself, or just doing something for you that doesn’t involve more work.  Wind down a little bit, and recharge!

6. Subscriptions, Subscriptions, Subscriptions

I’m all for subscriptions- btw, don’t forget to do so! But, in all seriousness- subscriptions can be a life saver for the busy stay-at-home mom.  I’m talking about cleaning products, food, toys, heck even something like the FabFitFun box for yourself!

These monthly subscriptions are incredible.  It saves you so much hassle trying to figure out what you need, when you need to get it, and how much of that product you need.

I absolutely LOVE the Grove Collaborative collection for my household cleaning essentials.  Not only do they smell AMAZING, but they aren’t filled with harsh chemicals.  So if you want your home smelling like you deep clean the crap out of it every single day- I would highly recommend!

Montessori toys have been a huge game changer too.  My baby girl loves these toys.  I know she’s only a year old, but she enjoys the challenges – mainly because she gets a big kick out of figuring things out!

The plus side is I don’t feel bad about buying senseless toys that have absolutely no educational value.  Of course she has her plush baby dolls, and a few light up- button pushing things that she loves.  I’m just saying it is so much easier to have toys that are specific to her age group show up to my door!

7. Get Everything Ready the Night Before

Believe when I say- I need to do this more!  Whenever we have something planned, I always try to make sure everything is put together the night before.

I’m talking about:

  • Bottles washed
  • Milk in Bottles
  • Pump bag packed
  • Diaper bag packed
  • Extra pacifiers rounded up
  • Travel toy/book gathered up

Making sure all this is ready and all in the same spot will help you tremendously! There have been so many times when I’m trying to get ready, and then once I am- I realize that none of my daughter’s things are put together.  What does this mean?  WE ARE LATE. Just get it together, and save yourself a migraine! This is one of the life hacks for the stay-at-home mom that I find VERY helpful.

8. Don’t Forget the Snacks

This does go with getting things ready the night before. But, if you take a spur of the moment trip, or going out to eat- don’t forget the SNACKS!

Right now our go-to snacks are the magical PUFFS and “baby crackers”.  These two dissolvable, grainy saints have come in handy so much.  Especially when we are out to eat.

If you don’t want to keep handing PUFFS to your baby at the dinner table though, I would recommend the cracker.  If your little one is able to independently feed themselves

These little snacks can keep baby entertained and satisfied for the entire meal!

9. Sound Machines

Who here has had their baby throw a massive fit at nap-time or bedtime? Me! And I know I’m not the only one.  These little machines that spit out white noise are a godsend.

I crank that thing up, and my baby girl snoozes just fine without being disturbed by other noises going on in the house.

We use the Hatch Rest- and it is wonderful.  If it seems too loud or quiet, I can just adjust it from my phone with Bluetooth.  BAM. It has so many different settings and colors you can even customize.

I actually had to purchase two- one for traveling.

10. Laundry Keep-Up

Oh, the joys of laundry.  The best way to keep up with the laundry, and to make it not seem like a never ending chore- put away the basket as soon as you get it out of the dryer!

You may think, HA! This won’t help me.  I assure you it will!

I have gotten to the point where two weeks of laundry was sitting in baskets in the basement.  Actually, probably more than two weeks.  Simply putting the basket away- ONE basket- is so much easier than trying to put away 6 or 7 baskets.

Nobody has time for that!

Hack Within a Hack
-Hang more than one onesie on a hanger to save space in the drawer and closet!-

You Got This Mama

Like I’ve said, being a stay-at-home mom is not an easy task. Shoot, being a working mom isn’t an easy task either, I’m sure! But, I hope that these 10 life hacks for the stay-at-home mom will help you as much as they have helped me.

I’d love to hear what your favorite mama hacks are! If you have any other tips that have worked for you, let me know in the comments. We are here to share our experiences after-all.
